RECOMMENDED CRITERIA FOR
"CLASS A"
PROFESSIONAL INDEPENDENT APPRAISER
(Dec. 3 1997)

1. Have an established business location in compliance with all laws and licensing requirements.

2. Equipment and support staff;
A. Have necessary staff and equipment to conclude a timely inspection and appraisal.
B. Have current technology to automate damage reports, assignment tracking, and communications.

3. Proof of Errors & Omissions insurance.

4. Have the ability to generate, interpret, audit, transmit and receive automated damage reports electronically. This should include a working knowledge of the three major information providers' systems.

5 Documentation of continuing education in repair-related matters from sources such as I- CAR, the Automotive Management Institute (AMI), automotive manufacturers, suppliers, or a nationally recognized auto physical damage training center.

6 Successfully complete a recognized automotive physical damage estimating course and/or have a minimum of 5 years auto physical damage analysis and estimating experience.

7. Participate in customer service awareness through industry-related continuing education groups.

8. Maintain the highest degree of personal and professional integrity, avoiding any perception of a conflict of interest with any entity.

9. Have Automotive Service Excellence(ASE) certification in Damage Analysis and Estimating.

10. An awareness of applicable environmental regulations for areas in which you are assigned work.

11. Establish standards for persons under his/her authority to ensure a quality appraisal consistent with fair claims practices and industry standards. Monitor the work product to ensure the highest level of compliance within those standards.

12. Make an objective assessment of the damage without prejudice to, or influence from, any entity.

13. Participate in industry-related association(s) which subscribe to a code of ethics.

14. Maintain standards of business conduct and operations that allow for the production of a quality appraisal and reflect positively on the integrity of the individual and industry.

15. Prepare a damage report basing the use of repair procedures and replacement parts on safety, quality, availability, and cost effectiveness of those parts to all parties. Clearly define the damage report processes and explain fully, including all client-required procedures, to all entities involved in the repair process.

16. Establish standards which ensure timely handling of all communications.

17. Coordinate handling of supplement requests so that a timely, cost-effective solution is achieved.

18. Take a cooperative approach with everyone in the appraisal, insurance, and repair process while objectively preparing an accurate report of the damage.

19. Do what you say you are going to do in a timely manner and do not make commitments that cannot be fulfilled.
