CIC Data Base Inquiry
CIC Reference No. 101
2000-2001 Toyota Tundra
R&I and/or R&R back sliding capsulated glass
Date of Request: March 4, 2001
Date Posted: April 21, 2001
Updated: July 16, 2001 (Motor response has been updated or clarified from previous entry.)

CIC Reference No. 101
Data Providers: Mitchell International, ADP Claims Solutions Group, Motor Information Systems
Original Time Allowance: Mitchell - 2.8; Motor - 1.1; ADP 3.0 (ADP time is for Access Cab)

Issue:
  1. Time allowance insufficient.
Time for Mitchell includes the removal of back seat and inner trim, but does not include the time to remove the headliner. Motor time is unrealistic.
  2. Limited access to urethane sealant.
  3. There is restricted access to the urethane adhesive due to the design of the slider capsulation overlapping pinch well flange.
  4. Slider capsulation damage.
Glass very difficult to remove with a high risk of some level of damage/distortion to the slider frame/capsulation.
  5. Sliding glass and stationary glass.
Time allowance for both the slider and stationary glass is the same.
  6. Regular Cab and Access Cab:
Time for both models are the same. Many more components must be R&I for the Access Cab.
Suggestion:
  1. A cautionary note be included in the labor notes stating the slider housing or glass molding may be damaged in the removal process and may require replacement.
  2. Do a time study using a collision technician and not a Glass Company technician reflecting a true to life situation. Shops that are required to do their own glass removal are held at a disadvantage when compared to a glass person who does this for a living. There should not be a double standard.
  3. An accurate time allowance be offered for this operation for each specific model.
Response:
  • Mitchell– Time based on manufacturer recommended procedure. Additional research is in process.
  • ADP– They have reviewed the manufacturers service information and contacted several glass replacement professionals and have determined that no change is warranted at this time. They plan to follow up with the manufacturer for additional information.
  • Motor– Applied footnotes "After all necessary interior trim is removed. " Raised time to 2.1 hrs.
Date of Response and/or correction:
Motor July 16, 2001 Applied footnotes "After all necessary interior trim is removed. " Raised time to 2.1
Mitchell June 11, 2001 Additional research in process.
ADP Apr. 8, 2001 Recognizes the need for additional research, no change yet
