CIC Data Base Inquiry
Reference No. 118
1997-2001 Dodge Dakota
R&I and/or R&R back sliding capsulated glass
  Date of Request:April 2001
Date Posted: May 5, 2001
Updated: July 16, 2001 (Motor response has been posted.)

CIC Reference No. 118
Data Providers: Mitchell International, ADP Claims Solutions Group, Motor Information Services
Original Time Allowance: Mitchell 1.9, Motor 1.8, ADP 2.0 (ADP is a Extra Cab)

Issue:
  1. Time allowance deficient. Time allowance from Mitchell and Motor are not realistic.
  2. Limited access to urethane sealant. There is restricted access to the urethane adhesive due to the design of the slider capsulation overlapping pinch well flange.
  3. Slider capsulation damage. Glass very difficult to remove with a high risk of some level of damage/distortion to the slider frame/capsulation.
  4. Sliding glass and stationary glass. Time allowance for both the slider and stationary glass is the same.
  5. Regular Cab and Access Cab: Time for both models are the same. Many more components must be R&I for the Access Cab.
Suggestion:
  1. A cautionary note be included in the labor notes stating the slider housing or glass molding may be damaged in the removal process and may require replacement.
  2. Do a time study using a collision technician and not a Glass Company technician reflecting a true to life situation. Shops that are required to do their own glass removal are held at a disadvantage when compared to a glass person who does this for a living.
  3. An accurate time allowance be offered for this operation for each specific model.
Response:
  • Motor–Added footnote, "After necessary interior trim is removed".
  • ADP –Their time includes all the steps except the headliner partial removal. They reviewed the manufacturer's service information and contacted several glass replacement professionals and have determined that no change is warranted at this time. They plan to follow up with the manufacturer for additional information.
  • Mitchell–Additional research in process.
Results/Change:
Mitchell June 11, 2001 Additional research in process.
Motor July 16, 2001 Added footnote, "After necessary interior trim is removed".
ADP April 2001 Recognizes need for additional research, no change yet
