CIC Data Base Inquiry
Reference No. 122

Make:                          Ford and Mazda

Model:                         Ranger and B-series

Year:                            1998-00

Operation:                    R&R door hinge pillar

Time allowance:            Mitchell            9.9 hrs

                                    Motor              7.5 hrs

                                    ADP                13.8

Date of Inquiry:            June 12, 2001

Issue:

¨      Motor

1.      Labor text note for this operations state; “LABOR: After fenders, doors, windshield, and instrument panel are removed” but does not include the R&I of the apron panel.

¨      Mitchell

1.      Labor text note (Mazda only) for this operation state; “Includes R&R Windshield Skirt for Access, w/Fender Skirt Removed w/Fender Skirt Removed Deduct 1.0.” A fragmented sentence that can easily be misinterpreted.

2.      Does not mention in the labor text note the instrument panel removal requirement.

¨      ADP “labor report “has two included steps that the time allowance may be questionable.

  1. In the labor report it states there is an included .3 labor allowance to R&I the welded fender apron/skirt that overlaps the door pillar.

  2. The “labor report” allows 2.2 included hours to R&I the instrument panel.

Suggestion:

¨      Motor:

1.      For the overall operation, add the time allowance to include the removal of the Fender Apron. The welded Apron must be removed because it overlaps the door pillar on the outside.

¨      Mitchell:

1.      The labor text note for the Mazda and Ranger should be the same for identical operations.

2.      The term “Fender Skirt” is used in the labor text note for the Ranger and Mazda, while in the fender R&R section of the manual the term “Fender Apron” is used to describe the same part. The part should be described the same.

3.      Although “Procedure Page-14” states the door is included and instrument panel is not included for this operation, stating (and including the 5.5 hours to R&I the instrument panel) in the “Labor Text Note” the removal of the instrument panel and door for this operation is required, would be valuable information to the estimator.

¨      ADP:

1.      Review the actual time for the removal and reinstallation of the welded apron/skirt.

2.      Review the actual time for the removal and reinstallation of the instrument panel.

Note:   ADP’s PenPro Estimating Program offers both the “included operations” and a “labor report” specific to the selected part by right clicking on the mouse.

Responses:

Mitchell: December 27, 2002 - Labor note has been modified to match that of the Ranger.  Instrument panel removal is a not included operation as per Procedure Page #14.

Motor Information System 10/8/2004 (DR2MD98)(ARH5321) Updated hinge pillar footnote to “Time is after fender, hood, door, windshield, upper rail and instrument panel are removed.”  In the FENDER group added Overlap Operations, R&R upper rail, with hinge pillar off, deduct 3.0 hours
