Inquiry (as stated by inquirer)

 To facilitate the proper removal and installation of a new back panel, the left and right tail lamp panels (# 1J5-813-309) must be replaced with new. The body panel welds inside the quarter panel and the outer reinforcement welds to that.  It looks impossible to cut out the body panel without first cutting off the reinforcement. There are welds hidden behind the reinforcement for the body panel.

 

¨       Mitchell’s labor notes states time includes the “Upper Rear Panel” without mention of the tail lamp panel.

¨       Motor’s labor note states, time includes the R&R of the tail lamp panel, but does not mention the “Upper rear panel.”

 

Labor note should be clear and specific, addressing all the adjacent panels that must also be replaced.

 

 

Suggestion

            To All:

1.      Please review operation and “labor note” for this operation. Please clearly state in labor note the specific adjacent panels that must be replaced in conjunction with the back panel.

 

Responses:
ADP: 04/21/2004 ADP's time on the Rear Center Panel Assy (Rear Body Panel) is 11.2 hours and includes time to disconnect and reconnect the Rear Body Reinforcement and both Taillamp Panels. There is no mention in the Service Information regarding the Taillamp Panels not being reusable. No changes are warranted at this time.

 

Mitchell: 09/03/2004 -

We verified through field research and manufacturer service procedures that the removal of the taillamp panels or disturbing the quarter panel joint in replacing the rear body panel is not recommended.  The published time of 10.0hrs is sufficient to perform the operation.

Motor Information System 10/8/2004 - (ERA9277) Increased labor time on rear body panel. O.E. replacement does not require replacement of the tail lamp pockets when replacing the rear body panel.
