Inquiry (as stated by inquirer)

ON A 2002 BMW M3 SERIES, WHEN REPLACING RADIATOR SUPPORT WHY DOES THE LABOR INC. “RPL. RADIATOR” WHEN FOOT NOTE SAYS WITH BOLTED ITEMS REMOVED AND DOES NOT STATE RADIATOR IS INC. IN THE LIST OF ITEMS THAT ARE INC.?  ALSO WHY IS THE ENGINE FAN BLADE AND FAN CLUTCH INC.?  NEITHER OF THESE ITEMS NEED TO BE REMOVED WHEN YOU ARE REPLACING RAD. SUPPORT AND RADIATOR. THEY ONLY HAVE TO BE REMOVED WHEN YOU ARE REPLACING RADIATOR ONLY?  THE RADIATOR TIME ALONE IS 2.0 THEREFORE IT IS ONLY PAYING SHOP 2.5 UNITS TO R&I BUMPER, ALL LAMPS, SEVERAL AIR DEFLECTORS, HOOD LATCHES, STOPS, ADJUSTERS AND RADIATOR SUPPORT ITSELF ETC. ETC…THIS QUESTION IS SENT BY MIKE ANDERSON & JIM DADISMAN @ WAGONWORK COLLISION CENTER. WE REPAIR THESE VEHICLES QUITE OFTEN AND FEEL THIS TIME IS INCORRECT.

Suggestion:

¨  Mitchell, please list a paint time allowance for this operation

To all, please review this operation, as the time allowance may not be sufficient.

Response:

ADP - July 31, 2003 - ADP's time for this operation is 9.8 hrs. This time includes bumper R&I, time to R&I all the lamps, and latches

Mitchell: The R&R of the radiator support complete or upper tie bar/lower tie bar does not include the R&I or R&R of the radiator.  The R&I or R&R of the engine fan or clutch is also a not included operation.  The support is a cast piece that is E-coated (not refinished) form BMW

Motor Information System 10/8/2004 (ERE1945) (ERE1941) Changed labor time on radiator support to 3.4 hours with footnote “Time includes R&I/R&R headlamp assemblies, condenser fan assembly, lower hood latches, air duct, upper cover, D&R of hood latches and D&R of hood release cable cable and necessary wiring.” “Refinish time is provided for those instances when required color is not available or for some repair situations.”
