Date of Inquiry: January 16th 2004
Inquiry (as stated by inquirer) It has been brought to my attention from one of my technicians that trial fitting of a new replacement quarter panel requires at least 2 trial fits prior to the actual installation by either resistant spot welding or mig welding. That is only if the inner structure has not been distorted as a result of the impact. Then, it may require a third trial fit.
According to ADP's Database Reference Guide; "General Labor Exclusions", item #10, Repair, fitting or modification of new replacement parts (unless the part is being sectioned). I'm under the assumption that fitting is not an included task in replacing a welded quarter panel or any other welded replacement panel.
Please confirm that "trial fitting" is not included in the database times for welded replacement panel.
Suggestion: ¨ Motor: Please clarify ¨ Mitchell: Please clarify ¨ ADP: Please clarify Response: ADP: ADP's replacement times on welded panels does not include Trial Fittings.
Mitchell: Trial fitting of welded panels is included in the panel’s R&R allowance. Trial fitting of a panel is understood as necessary as is the actual welding of the panel. Therefore, these necessary steps pertaining to the removal, preparation and welding of welded panels are not listed in the included operations of welded panel Procedures.
MOTOR: 09/20/2004 In MOTOR's GTE pages (G8) labor time premise, "reported times include normal align procedure to insure proper fit of individual new part being replaced." The normal replacement of a new quarter panel would include a trail fit and align and clamp into position prior to welding.
