REFERRAL PROGRAM DEFINITIONS

DRP - DIRECT REPAIR PROGRAM

A DRP is created and controlled by an insurer to facilitate claims handling and reduce costs. Repairers agree or contract with insurers to adhere to certain criteria in order to be part of a referral program. The criteria could include specified equipment and training, and in some cases pricing discounts. The shop is authorized to appraise the damage to the vehicle. Policyholders can choose a non-agreement facility with no financial penalties or co payments.

DAP - DIRECT APPRAISAL PROGRAM

A DAP is very similar to a DRP with the exception that repairs can begin only after the insurer has reviewed and approved the appraisal, and or, photos or video images of the damage.

PPN - PREFERRED PROVIDER NETWORK

A PPN is a network of providers (repairers) that organize and contract with insurance companies to provide repair services for their policyholders at previously negotiated competitive rates.

PPO -PREFERRED PROVIDER OPTION

A PPO is part of an insurance policy that offers the customer the choice of the network option at the time they purchase their policy in exchange for a lower premium. Policyholders may incur greater out-of-pocket expenses if they choose a non-network provider.

TPA - THIRD-PARTY ADMINISTRATOR

A TPA is an entity that administers repair claims handling for insurers and providers of repair services.
