| CIC Anti Fraud Committee Report Anchorage, Alaska 2001 |
|
| The Anti Fraud Committee Co-chairs Bob Smith (Storm Appraisal) and Gary Wano (GW and Son Auto Body) presented a short review of Cost Shifting. They accomplished their task by engaging in a role-playing exercise. They demonstrated that trying to cover the cost to repair something that isnt covered is a serious matter, no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential it is. The attempt was to show that doing things correctly and up front is the only way that business should be done in todays market. Even the perception of anything unethical can carry severe consequences. The Committee stressed that even though there had been significant strides made in the industry over the last few years, Cost Shifting was still very prevalent. All segments of the industry need to step up and say, "Enough is enough, we cannot continue to do business this way." The co-chairs called for the participants of CIC to be the leaders and to set the example for the rest of the industry to follow. Be absolutely sure that all dealings are above reproach or they could wind up being legal nightmares and result in the loss of a business. |
